I was fortunate in the my family doctor was willing to wait until my children we ready to be born. My 2nd decided that Saturday was a good day so we needed to page the surgeon from a Colgate football game. My last two were on Monday so doc was already at work. It was nice being able to have my children in a small rural hospital Despite my disappointment in having them all by cesarean, the nurses were quite helpful and understanding. BUT the real reason I decided to post this is because so often we leave it up to the doctor to decide when it is the right time for baby to be born and sometimes this can be 2, 3 or even 4 weeks before they are ready. So much happens in their last days in the womb - brain developing is only one of them. So, if you HAVE to have a cesarean, convince your care giver to wait until labor has started. There will be plenty of time, usually, to get you to surgery. And if there isn't --- you just might get that VBAC.
